Black Hills massage therapy class graduates
Black Hills Health and Education Center's ten-month massage therapy course for 2009-2010 has drawn to a close, with graduation scheduled for June 17.
BHHEC's Christian-based massage therapy program is one of only three similar programs in the nati on. Unlike other programs, the cost at BHHEC includes housing and food. Students are able to practice their skills on wellness center guests, as well as working in the student clinic.
"I love the fact that you come to a place that has such beautiful scenery and you can experience peace—the Creator is very present in this place," says student Heather Russell.
In order to practice as massage therapists, graduates must take a national examination and apply for licenses in their home states. To date, the school has had a 100 percent pass rate for those students who elected to take the national exam.
Employment for massage therapists is expected to increase 20 percent by 2016, and the average wage for massage therapists is $41.50 per hour.
