Cross to Crown radio station crippled by lightning

Posted on Sept 01, 2010

A direct lightning strike has crippled the Cross to Crown International radio station in Nicaragua.

ASI members Mike and Diana Halverson gave a stirring Members in Action interview on Sabbath afternoon at the ASI Convention in Orlando. They shared how the Lord called them to begin Cross to Crown International, a radio ministry to reach the Miskito Indians in a remote, unreached area of Nicaragua that has no roads, no running water and no electricity. With help from ASI, Cross to Crown had recently brought solar power to the station, allowing it to run 24 hours a day instead of only 5 hours. They'd also begun dropping solar-powered, preset radios into small villages using parachutes. Within the past two months, they'd received stories of at least 8 baptisms directly related to the radio station.

Lightning, however, has stopped the station dead in its tracks. On Mike's most recent visit to Nicaragua, he discovered that the station is no longer functioning. The Halversons have faced obstacles like this before. At one point, a hurricane took out their radio tower. But the Lord provided a better one in its place. When they had technical problems with their radio equipment, AWR set them up with even better equipment.

"Every time something bad happens," says Diana, "God sends something better! We should only be reaching about a 30-mile radius right now, but we've been reaching up to a 100-mile radius and getting a lot of responses from an area that is dominated by witchcraft and that has heard very little about God."

The Halversons had just returned from the ASI Convention with a series of sermons from Stephen Bohr, which they planned to air on the station. They're certain this event is designed to stop that from happening, but past experience tells them that God has planned something even better. They would appreciate continued prayers from their fellow ASI members.
